Weekly Crypto Digest: crypto market stabilizes above $45,000

The attached overview from Coin360 shows the performance of the crypto market in the past 7 days. The total crypto market cap stabilized around $2,277 billion. Thereby, Bitcoin’s market dominance also remained hovering at just below 41%. The market cap of number 2 Ethereum (ETH) fell slightly to $443 billion, with Ethereum’s market dominance hovering nicely around 20%.

The accompanying chart shows the total crypto market cap. It is striking that the market currently does not seem to be moving in any particular direction. On a positive note, however, the December low of just under $2,200 billion has not been broken (yet).

Whether this is strong enough to get back on the way up will be something we will see in the time ahead. To state that the expected year-end rally was somewhat disappointing is the understatement of the year. To be honest, we did expect the market to be (a lot) stronger.

However, nothing could be further from the truth. Perhaps the Omicron variant is weighing too heavy a mark(s) on the market. Investors are therefore choosing to sell more risky asset classes, including cryptos.

This in turn provides opportunities, as the market is down about 33% compared to early November. Bitcoin and Ethereum are important indicators of sentiment. If these two heavyweights manage to find their way back up, the other 15,972 coins could also take to the skies in their slipstream.
